What is Meiosis?
In meiosis, chromosomes in a diploid cell replicate, producing
four haploid daughter cells. It is this step it generates genetic diversity.
There are several step to Meiosis
Prophase I:
is where the Chromosomes start to come to together and become a simple strands
of DNA. This makes it easier for division of the
chromosomes.
Metaphase I:
this is where the chromo both chromosomes are in their simplest form and when
they are easily visible under a light microscope. This also brings about a
cross over. this is when one leg of the chromosomes both switch.
Metaphase/ Anaphase I:
This is when the chromosome is separated; this is caused by the pull by spindle
fibers pulling them apart. They are pulled from one side to
another.
Telophase I/ Cytokinesis:
This stage is the forming the cell membrane creates two cells called haploid
cells.
Now in Meiosis it dose this process again. it goes through
Prophase ,Metaphase ,Anaphase, Telophase and Cytokinesis. As an end result it
creates four haploid daughter cell. This is then used for the sex cells also
called ( Gametes). This is what makes the genetic diversity in a
human.
